Deputy Shawn Hostler

Title:  Deputy/K-9 Handler

Personal: Shawn was born and raised in the Blunt, SD area.  A resident of Brookings, Shawn loves everything outdoors, hunting, fishing, SCUBA diving, playing with his white lab Sadie, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Background: A 1992 graduate of Sully Buttes High School, Shawn attended Western Dakota Technical Institute from September 1992 until he graduated, with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Law Enforcement Technology, in May 1994. Shawn started work with the Sully County Sheriff’s Office in June of 1999, and graduated from the South Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy in December of that year. In August 2001 Shawn was hired as a Correctional Officer with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, and was deputized that October. Shawn was hired as a full time Deputy in May 2004 where he was partnered with Deputy Bo.

Special duties: Shawn is the K-9 Handler for Brookings County. He also patrols on the department’s Harley-Davidson patrol motorcycle. Shawn is a member of the South Dakota Peace Officers Association and Fraternal Order of Police.
