Detention Center

The Brookings County Detention Center provides a secure holding facility for persons legally confined in Brookings County, including pre-trial, pre-sentence and sentenced adult male and female offenders.

The Brookings County Detention Center houses inmates of all security levels. Many services and programs are provided for the inmates. These services include 24 hour medical services, food services, recreation and laundry facilities. Programs include: school and work release, mental health and drug counseling, AA, and religious services.

The Brookings County Detention Center is a fifty-bed facility that has a current daily average inmate population of thirty-two.

Finger Printing

The Brookings County Detention Center Correctional Officers are in charge of fingerprinting inmates as they arrive at our facility. Fingerprinting services are also available to the public for a nominal fee.

Training

Correctional Officers receive continuous training at the Brookings County Detention Center. We offer on the job training as well as CPR/Defribulataor, Med-Tox drug screening, certification in distributions of medication, Pressure Points and Control Tactic, Tactical Training and more.

Control Room

In the control center, Correctional Officers can observe the inmates in any part of the facility at all times. Although continuous rounds of the jail is the standard procedure, this control center lets Correctional Officers have both visual and verbal contact with the inmates.

Minimum Security

The minimum security area includes several inmate bunks and a day room. This area is used to house our work release and school release.

Maximum Security

Maximum Security cells are used to house inmates that are charged with more serious crimes.

Staff

The Correctional Staff includes a full time Jail Administrator, Bart Sweebe, three full time male officers, four full time female officers, five part time male officers, five part time female officer, one part time transportation officer and one part time Detention Center nurse.
