Deputy
Bo and Deputy Hostler were
partnered in May of 2004. Deputy Bo came from former
Brookings native Mark Sloat. Deputy Bo is a 6 year old golden lab. Deputies Bo
trained under instructor Dave Huntimer with the
Sioux Falls Police Department. Training lasted
5 weeks and was conducted in Sioux Falls.
Deputy Bo has proven himself an asset to the Brookings County Sheriff's
Office since he started working. He has been involved with several
arrests. He has assisted the South
Dakota Highway Patrol, Brookings
Police Department, the
South Dakota
Department of Corrections, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
and has also assisted Moody
and Hamlin Counties with searches.
Deputy Bo
is well taken care of by the members of the Brookings Community.
Dr. Sutton takes care of all of Bo's medical needs free of charge.
Paw's Corner in Brookings takes care of all Bo's "spa" needs also free of
charge.
Deputy Bo has done numerous demonstrations for different organizations
in Brookings. If you would like a demonstration for your group or
organization, contact
Sheriff Marty Stanwick to set up a time.
On Friday, July 29, 2005, a fund raiser was held to help
raise money for the Brookings County K-9 Unit. Volunteers from the
Brookings County Sheriff's Office, the Brookings Police Department, the
Brookings Fire Department and the Brookings County Detention Center took part
in a dunk tank that was held during Brookings' Crazy Dayz. Over $600 was
raised and everyone had fun!! Those who volunteered their time were:
