Personal: Born and raised in Brookings, SD. Currently resides in Brookings area and is married with two children.
Background: Graduated from Brookings High School in 1971. Marty is currently in his second term as Sheriff in Brookings County, being elected in 1998. Prior to taking office, he was a member of the Brookings Police Department for 20 years, leaving with a rank of Patrol Lieutenant.
Special Duties: Marty a member of the South Dakota Sheriff's Association, the National Sheriff's Association, and the South Dakota D.A.R.E. Officer's Association. He is also a member of several local committees and organizations including the Brookings Board of Directors for East Central Mental Health Foundation, Domestic Abuse Shelter, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT), the Sterling Township Board and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
